Skid-Mounted Annulus Pressure Monitoring
& Fluid Transfer System
Large swings in fluid pressure within the annulus of a deep injection well (>8,000 ft!) was causing operational and permit compliance issues for the owner. This was a persistent problem where the cause was not easy or cost-effective to identify. It had been proven that a traditional seal pot with a nitrogen blanket was not working for this type of well.
The solution provided was a skid-mounted annulus monitoring system with the ability to transmit annulus fluid between the atmospheric tank and well annulus. The system is equipped with flow meters, pressure transducers and gauges, pressure relief devices, a high pressure plunger pump, and electronic controls. Fluid is discharged and returned to the well annulus through high pressure hoses using quick-disconnect fittings, allowing the unit to be fully self-contained. The system was designed as a 3D model to ensure proper fit-up, accurate material take-offs, and fabrication. The system was successfully put into operation and provided a much-needed solution!
