SCRAP METAL OIL RESIDUAL
CONTAINMENT SYSTEM

The client, A-Line EDS, is a unique company with a unique engineering project. They provide environmentally sound decommissioning, removal, and recycling of transformers and electrical equipment. As part of their efforts to continually improve their operations, A-Line wanted to provide a better method of storing scrap metal that they stockpile onsite until it can be recycled. Although unlikely, the metal in the stockpile has the potential to contain residual oil and A-Line wanted to prevent possible commingling of the oil with stormwater runoff. The solution was to provide a geosynthetic-lined containment system for the scrap metal stockpile that is above and beyond the standard for the industry.
The engineering design of the scrap metal containment system included the following:
-
Hydrologic evaluations
-
Stormwater hydrograph and routing analysis
-
Liner system strength and integrity evaluation
-
Oil-water separator sizing and selection
-
Area drain design
-
Gravity drainage pipe layout and sizing
-
Site plans and grading
-
Retention pond expansion
-
Bid assistance
-
Consulting during construction activities
The project was successfully completed in Spring 2019 and A-Line continues to lead their industry in it's environmental practices.
